Cessna plane crashes in Colorado Springs

Two people suffered minor injuries when a Cessna airplane crashed while taking off at the Colorado Springs airport around 8:00am Wednesday.

The airport's director said the plane lost power and the pilot decided to put it down in the field north of the airport. Police closed the west gate of Peterson Air Force Base for almost two hours as hazmat cleaned up the crash and unloaded all fuel from the plane.

The Cessna suffered heavy damage. The National Transportation and Safety Board is investigating the crash, it is unknown at this time why the plane lost power.
