Chase suspect tied to liquor store robbery, stabbing

Police in Colorado Springs say the man who led them and El Paso County Sheriffs deputies on a high speed chase Thursday morning is also a suspect in a violent robbery at a liquor store earlier in the week.

Jonathan Gaide, 28, was arrested in the parking lot of an apartment complex along South Academy Boulevard after trying to out run officers in a stolen Chevy Trailblazer.

He's suspected of car-jacking a Yellow Cab driver at about 7:23 p.m. Wednesday night in the area of Hillcrest Avenue and N. Union Boulevard.

He and unknown woman were reportedly driving the cab during an armed robbery at the Carl's Junior at 1890 S. Chelton at around 4:16 a.m. Thursday.

Sheriffs deputies spotted the abandoned taxi along Eagle Wing Drive near Black Forest Rd. a couple of hours later.

Then, at around 7:24 a.m. the owner of the Trailblazer reported it stolen from her home on Silver Ponds Heights, roughly a mile from where the cab was dumped.

In a follow up investigation, detectives with the department's Violent Crimes Robbery Unit also connected Gaide to a robbery on Tuesday at Bluffs Wine and Liquors at 3609 Austin Bluffs Parkway.

A store clerk was stabbed in the chest during that robbery.

The police say the woman was only seen at the Carl's Junior robbery.  She's describe only as a black female.

Anyone with information relating to the case is asked to call Crime Stoppers 634-STOP.
