Children's literacy: Library programs this week

If you're interested in booting your child's interest in reading, the Pikes Peak Library District has several free programs this week to attract them.

Spanish for Preschoolers
This is a free introductory Spanish immersion class for children ages 3 to 5 presented by Yak Academy. Through games, songs, and arts and crafts, children will have fun while learning Spanish! Space is limited to 12 children. Register at 531-6333, x1403.

Study Buddies
Trained volunteers will help students in kindergarten through fifth grade with homework or reading practice. Whether you're working on math, spelling, social studies, science or reading, come study with a buddy. This is a free, drop-in program.

Toddler Time
One- and two-year-old children, with a favorite adult, participate in nursery rhymes, music and movement, and listen to a few short books. Toddler Time builds on familiar experiences to introduce new vocabulary and word sounds in a lively atmosphere.

Storytime

Snow Bubble with Jim Jackson from MAT!
Snowflakes and soap bubbles abound in the new MAT production of Snow Bubble featuring Jim Jackson with music by Benjamin Pratt. Drawing upon the Caldecott Medal -winning book Snowflake Bentley, which poetically reveals the life of Wilson Bentley and his obsession with snowflakes, Snow Bubble imagines a meeting between Wilson, the photographer, and the clown Mr. Guffaw as they compare their worlds of snowflakes and soap bubbles. Art, science and comedy collide in this very surprising look at the beauty of two common but very special aspects of nature - snow and bubbles!
