Today you can begin cutting your own Christmas tree in the Pikes Peak area. The Pike National Forest - Pikes Peak Ranger District will sell Christmas Tree cutting permits December 2 through 18, 2013. The cost is $10.00 per tree and cutting takes place near Woodland Park no later than December 18.
The cutting area is three miles from the Woodland Park Middle School.
During weekdays, permits may be purchased at the District Office at 601 South Weber Street in Colorado Springs. Office hours are 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. or, call 719-477-4221.
On weekends, permits are sold 8:00 a.m. - 2:30 p.m. on December 7, 8, 14 and 15 at the Woodland Park Middle School located on the corner of Rampart Range Road and Kelley Road.
Trees are of various species including: lodgepole pine, ponderosa pine, Douglas-fir, and Engelmann spruce. Chain saws are not allowed. A hand saw or axe will be adequate because trunks must be no larger than 6 inches in diameter at the base of the tree.
