Church leader rescued near Helen Hunt Falls

A Colorado Springs church youth leader is in the hospital after a bad fall near Helen Hunt Falls. It happened around 10:30 as the youth group was on a hike when the 37 year old went off the trail.

"He was out there looking around and just lost his footing and fell the whole way down." explains Lt. Stacy Billapado with the Colorado Springs Fire Department. "He fell approximately 50-100 feet down a pretty steep embankment with some pretty good injuries." explains Lt. Michael Archuleta with CSFD.

Colorado Springs Fire called in their rescue team to bring the man out. He suffered injuries to his leg and head, but miraculously survived the towering fall. "That kind of fall could have easily been a fatality fall." explains Archuleta, "He is very, very fortunate that he is alive." "That was our first thought... Please, please, please let him be ok." adds Billapado.

With a busy weekend ahead, rescue crews urge all park visitors to be careful out on the trails. "Please know your limits." says Billapado, "Please know that out of bounds, is out of bounds."
