Clerk held hostage in Florence standoff

We have more details on the hostage situation that happened in Florence this morning.

According to Florence Police Chief, Mike DeLaurentis, officers responded to alarms at the Kwik Stop convenience story just before 5am. When officers got to the store, the clerk inside indicated there was a possible armed robbery going on, by making a hand symbol like a gun.

Police surrounded the building, once the suspect realized police were there, DeLaurentis said the situation got very tense and turned into a hostage situation. Sheriffs deputies also arrived, they made sure there were no other suspects in the building and then police helped the clerk escape. The suspect remained inside and refused to come out of the store.

Around 7am, police used a k9 and went into the store to take down the suspect. He was brought into custody and being questioned now. No one was injured.

Area schools were delayed for two hours due to the situation.
