The Colorado Springs Fire Department and local health clinics are going the extra mile to help keep you safe.
They're meeting at local grocery stores on the third Saturday every month through the end of the year, doing free blood pressure and blood sugar checks. They also have dieticians availible for advice before you go do your shopping.
Paramedics with the group say these checks can point out possible problems ahead of time, and they hope it gets people looking into health issues early - before they become a problem.
"About 75 percent of the alarms we run on are medical calls, and if we can help increase the health of our community -- get them to a place where they're seeing a family physician for those little things -- then it will make our whole community healthier and safer," says Joey Buttenwieser, a firefighter/paramedic for CSFD.
The free health checks are being held on the third Saturday of each month at these locations in Colorado Springs:
-King Soopers at 2910 S Academy Blvd.
-Wal-Mart at 3201 East Platte Ave.
-Albertson's at 455 E Cheyenne Mountain Blvd.
-King Soopers at 815 Cheyenne Meadows Road.
