Cog Railway train safely off the Peak

Colorado Springs is packed with out-of-town visitors as family and friends prepare for Wednesday's graduation at the Air Force Academy. Dozens of tourists got more excitement than they expected when their Cog Railway train was trapped on Pikes Peak for a time by a downed power line and grass fires.

The power line spanned the tracks. It also sparked about a half-dozen small fires. A passenger on one of the trains Tweeted, "We are off now. We left the peak at 11:20, ran into smoke around 1 pm and exited at 2:15. 3 full cars w/ us."

Firefighters had to hike into the remote terrain carrying water.

As a precaution all trains have been canceled for the rest of the day, the incline is closed to hikers and Ruxton Ave. is closed to allow emergency vehicles into the area.
