Colder weather on its way; warming shelters open their doors

With colder temperatures on their way later this week, the city reminds citizens of warming shelters in Colorado Springs for those in need.

The primary warming shelter is the Springs is located at the Salvation Army's Montgomery Center located at 709 Sierra Madre Ave, which can accommodate 45 individuals.

The overflow shelter is at the Springs Rescue Mission at 5 W. Las Vegas St, which can hold 20 people.

People can check into the shelters after 7 pm and stay until conditions improve in case of a blizzard. During cold weather, individuals can check in after 7 pm, but must leave by 7 am the next morning, unless temperatures remain below 20 degree.


In Pueblo, the Wayside Cross Gospel Rescue Mission (728 West 4th St.) has available beds, the Salvation Army (520 West 13th St.), and Posada (1008 N. Grand).
