Cooler temps slow fire growth on Duckett Fire

Brenda Bowen spokesperson for the Duckett Fire Emergency Management team has released an updated statement regarding the Duckett Fire.

Lower temperatures are slowing the fire growth and giving fire fighters on scene a bit of the upper hand while setting fire lines to contain the fire. Firefighters were able to take advantage of the conditions and build direct line along with some burnout operations. Conditions are expected to remain about the same tonight. Crews will continue building direct line and securing areas along the perimeter in anticipation of warmer temperatures which could cause the fire to intensify on Sunday.

Crews are still on stand by for structure protection. Residents and the general public are reminded to use caution when traveling on roads in the vicinity of the fire.

A fire area closure for the Duckett fire was issued. The order closes all National Forest System lands, roads, and trails within the Duckett fire are= a on the San Isabel National Forest. The Bureau of Land Management Royal Gorge Field Office has initiated stage 2 fire restrictions.
