DENVER (AP) - Colorado Secretary of State Bernie Buescher has sent two investigators to Saguache (suh-WAHCH') County to find out why vote totals changed during a retally of votes three days after the election.
The recount affects two Republican candidates who thought they had won, but are now behind in the vote count. County Republican Party vice chairman Michael Lobato complained that the number of mail-in ballots counted on election night increased by about 100 in all races on Friday.
He says Buescher ordered all election materials locked up until investigators arrive. Lobato said the extra ballots only reversed the results in two races - county commission and county clerk.
The county clerk, Melinda Myers, didn't answer the phone Friday afternoon.
