Colorado jail escapee killed in New Mexico

New Mexico authorities say an escaped inmate from a southern Colorado jail has been fatally shot and the search continues for another man who's on the run.

A spokesman for the New Mexico Department of Public Safety says state and tribal police found the two escaped inmates in an abandoned trailer about 4 p.m. Thursday in a remote area of northern New Mexico near Dulce. Authorities say one of the men ran away and the other tried to attack officers and was shot and killed by Jicarilla Apache tribal police.

Authorities didn't immediately identify which escaped inmate was killed. Colorado authorities say 24-year-old Jason Snow and 45-year-old Clifford Reseigh escaped from the Archuleta County Detention Center near Pagosa Springs on Tuesday night after assaulting two jail guards and stealing a vehicle.

The vehicle was later found abandoned near the Colorado-New Mexico border.
