Colorado says feds holding school security funds

DENVER (AP) - Colorado Attorney General John Suthers says the U.S. Department of Agriculture is holding back money it should pass along to rural schools and small towns for school security programs.

Suthers is among 14 attorneys general across the nation who say the money is supposed to be used to replace money lost when timbering or other activities are prohibited on national forests or grasslands.

The Grand Junction Daily Sentinel says the Secure Rural Schools program was to be funded with that money, but it was determined to be part of the ongoing federal budget battle.
