Colorado Springs carjacker arrested

Colorado Springs, CO - Colorado Springs police arrested a 29 year old man in connection to an assault and carjacking of another man Thursday night.

Police were called shortly before 11 p.m. to an area near E. Fountain Blvd. and S. Chelton Road, where a 54 year old male victim advised he had been approached by two white males who assaulted him with a handgun and took his Ford F150 pickup truck.

One of the suspects fled the area in the vehicle while the other fled the area on foot. The vehicle and suspect descriptions were aired via police radio to all officers. Shortly thereafter, Falcon officers located the stolen truck in the area of Garden of the Gods Rd. and I-25. Officers contacted the lone occupant of the vehicle who matched one of the suspect descriptions given by the victim. A short struggle ensued as the officers took the suspect into custody. A handgun was recovered from the waistband of the suspect. Officers searched the area but were unable to locate the second suspect.

The suspect will be charged with Aggravated Robbery, Second Degree Assault, Felony Menacing and Possession of a Weapon by a Previous Offender. He also had an unrelated misdemeanor warrant for his arrest. The suspect will not be identified at this time pending further investigation.
