Colorado Springs gets greener

Colorado Springs got a little greener today.
Arbor Day meant that twenty-five trees found a new home in Colorado Springs.
"Planting trees is great for the environment," says Tana Jones of Weston Solutions, who helped with the event. "It's a great sustainability initiative for our city, and I think everybody should come out and give it a shot," she adds.
Mayor Lionel Rivera, along with several other city leaders, kicked-off the celebration in America the Beautiful Park this morning. Tree planting lasted until 1 p.m.
About one hundred people came to the event. Volunteers planted trees along Midland Trail between Monument Creek and Chestnut Street. Professional and amateur artist also volunteered to paint tree-themed mini-murals over eighteen graffiti-covered columns along the Midland Trail under I-25.
Last year, only twenty-two trees were planted. Thanks to a $1500 dollar door prize the city won from the National League of Cities, two hundred trees will be planted.
