Colorado Springs couple Justin and Jennifer Last, both age 27, have a busy rest of their life ahead of them. They're proud parents of healthy newborn quadruplets.
The quads were born at Memorial Hospital on July 23, two months before their due date of September 22. The two girls and two boys, Fiona, Eric, Lana, and Nathan, weighed in at between 2 lbs., 6 oz. and 3 lbs., 8 oz. Doctor Robert Kiley of the Memorial Hospital neonatal unit says these are the first quadruplets to be born at Memorial since 2007.
The quads are in Neonatal Intensive Care Unit incubators for now, but all appear healthy. The mother, Jennifer Last, did use low-level fertility drugs, but they only carried a 5 percent risk of causing twins, let alone quadruplets. Occurence of twins does run in both Jennifer's and Justin's families. "Maybe that's why it happeed," Jennifer hypothesizes. "We've got the twins from both sides all in one go."
The Lasts say they will have help from friends and family in raising their new quadruplets. Jennifer says friends who have had babies recently are donating clothing and supplies. Justin works as a satellite engineer for Lockheed Martin and will work full-time while Jennifer raises the quads once they're ready to go home.
