Colorado Springs Police arrest one of their own for suspicion of theft.

Colorado Springs Police arrest 53-year-old Sgt. James Butierres for suspicion of felony theft and felony forgery.

Police say the arrest was related to time and labor issues and funds associated with a Motor Vehicle Theft grant.

The investigation into the employee theft allegations started approximately one week ago.

According to Chief Peter Carey, "The arrest of an officer has an impact not only on department members, but our community as well. It will be handled in the same manner and with the same integrity as every other investigation."

Mr. Butierres has been placed on Administrative Leave with pay. The case will be presented to the District Attorney's Office for formal charges. If and when felony charges are filed, the Administrative Leave will be without pay.

Police say because this case remains an active investigation, no further information will be released.
