Colorado Springs refurbishes fire equipment to save money

The City of Colorado Springs saved money recently by rebuilding a fire department pumper truck.  A new one would have cost approximately $371,000. The  refurbishing process cost $172,000.

The Fire Department has refurbished six units over the last four years, for a combined savings of over one million dollars.

The 1997 truck got an engine rebuild, new suspension and driveline parts, including springs, shocks and steering linkages.  It also got a rebuilt transmission, new brakes, and new parts in the cab, including new seats.

The whole project took six months and was finished in July.
