Colorado is taking another shot at winning millions of dollars for education reforms.

Officials plan to submit the state's application on Tuesday for the second round of the Obama administration's Race to the Top competition.

Colorado placed 14th out a field of 16 finalists in the first round in April. Since then, lawmakers passed a major change in the way teachers are evaluated and granted tenure which backers think will help increase the state's chances of winning.

The state could win up to $175 million if selected this time.
