Colorado has spent as much as $247,000 in federal stimulus money to post signs along construction sites letting drivers know the work is being paid for with stimulus money. The signs also bear the name of Democratic Gov. Bill Ritter.
Republican lawmakers think it's ridiculous and proposed ending the practice. Democratic lawmakers voted to reject the Republican proposal Thursday after a hearing in the a House committee.
The bil,l from Rep. David Balmer, would have barred the state from buying new signs or even reusing old signs at projects. He said he wanted to save taxpayer dollars. But Democratic Rep. Joe Miklosi said taxpayers should know where their stimulus money is being spent.
Colorado will continue using federal stimulus dollars to make more signs.
