Community rallies for wounded Pueblo soldier

A big welcome home ceremony was held today for a soldier from Pueblo who was wounded in combat. This afternoon a motorcycle procession roared along Highway 50 E. in Blende, as more than a hundred people gathered to salute Navy Petty Officer Brandon Bernal.

Bernal was injured by an improvised explosive device or I.E.D. while serving in Afghanistan in 2010. He was awarded The Purple Heart for his sacrifice.

"Very humbled an honored that the Pueblo community would get together and do this for me. Words can't express the gratitude that me and my family can extend out," said Bernal.

The American Legion Riders District 8 organized the event, which also included a fundraiser lunch. The bikers say all of the proceeds went to Bernal's family.
