Company offers to recycle unsold solar panels

DENVER (AP) - A competitor to bankrupt Abound Solar has offered to recycle about 100,000 of the company's discarded solar panels after Colorado officials deemed the material hazardous waste.
The Denver Post reports First Solar in Tempe, Ariz., has approached Abound with the plan, but details have yet to be worked out.
Colorado health and environment officials have ordered Loveland-based Abound to clean up hazardous waste at four Front Range locations, citing thousands of "unsellable" solar panels and thousands of gallons of toxic liquids.
Abound made solar panels by applying a thin film of cadmium telluride to a sheet of glass. Federal agencies consider cadmium a probable carcinogen.
The company filed for bankruptcy protection last year after prices of solar panels collapsed.
