GRAND JUNCTION, Colo.- A company whose plan to drill on the Roan Plateau is being challenged by environmentalists says its projections for as many as 3,200 wells on the western Colorado landmark shouldn't be considered by the court.

The recent filing by Denver-based Bill Barrett Corp. is part of the lawsuit claiming the Bureau of Land Management didn't adequately analyze the potential impacts in a plan for natural gas drilling on the public land.

Environmentalists contend company statements that as many as 3,200 wells could be drilled bolster their claims the BLM violated federal law by not fully exploring the potential development. The BLM plan projected 210 wells on top of the plateau.

The Daily Sentinel in Grand Junction reports the company calls its projections conceptual.
