Confronting domestic violence

Dozens of red painted plywood cutouts stood silently in the frosty air outside the Pioneers Museum in downtown Colorado Springs Friday morning.  The faceless wooden figures symbolize victims of domestic violence from the Colorado Springs area who've died in recent years at the hand of their abusers.

Earlier in the day, domestic violence survivors and advocates pleaded their case for stronger reforms to prosecute abusers and protect victims.

A panel of law makers, law enforcement officers, prosecutors and judges from around El Paso County listened as advocates expressed the need for better emergency housing for victims and children, the need to limit abusers from accessing weapons and about the difficulties that exist in prosecuting of abusers who are members of the military.
