All those extra fees that consumers are paying to fly add up to billions of dollars for the nation's airlines and a House panel is taking a closer look.

The Bureau of Transportation Statistics says airlines collected $7.8 billion last year in ancillary fees -- more than a third of it from charges for baggage.

The House transportation subcommittee is holding a hearing on possible requirements for better disclosure of all the costs consumers face.

It's also looking into whether those fees might actually be subject to the federal tax on airline tickets.
