Construction continues on million dollar sports complex in Pueblo

Multiple fields, basketball courts, and a lot of open space!

Despite the tough economy, a new million dollar sports complex on the southside of Pueblo will soon be open.

We found out a lot of help came from the Denver Broncos.

Crews have been hard at work this summer on a sports complex that covers 13 acres near Minnequa Lake.

It wouldn't have been possible without a quarter of a million dollar grant from the Denver Broncos.

"Once the seed money was available, then the City of Pueblo then put the remaining million dollars into the project," said Creighton Wright, Parks and Recreation Director in Pueblo.

Because of the Broncos, there will be football fields, but that's not all.

"Soccer, lacrosse, any kind of field sports really can be played out here," said Wright.

Despite hard economic times, they say it had to be done due to a major need on the southside.

"It's focusing on quality of life, giving a place for more field sports to play here in Pueblo," said Wright.

Construction will finish at the end of this month.

"We do have signs all the way around the park that ask people to stay off of the new sod, and that's the one big thing is we need to give the sod some time to take hold and grow," said Wright.

With the sod growing, it won't be ready for use till mid-October.

The Police Activities League has been instrumental in making this happen, and Parks and Rec will partner with several leagues for use of the complex.
