The Colorado Springs Fire Department, along with other city agencies, will burn grass and brush around Quail Lake in southwest Colorado Springs.

The prescribed burn is planned for Wednesday around 9 a.m. and is intended to clear dead vegetation in a three acre area and remove noxious weeds.

"Fire has always played a natural role in our ecosystems. It is an important tool in managing our resources," said Paul Smith, City Forester for the City of Colorado Springs. "We recognize that fire is an important tool for land management in certain circumstances."

All efforts will be made to minimize the impact of smoke on surrounding homes and businesses, but the Colorado Springs Fire Department wants to remind people that there will be smoke in the air.
