Cops in CO wrote 9,327 seat belt tickets in 2 weeks

DENVER - Colorado State Troopers and local law enforcement officers wrote 9,327 seat belt tickets last month during the Click It or Ticket campaign. During the two week enforcement period of May 20 - June 2, there were 67 fugitives arrested, 33 drivers suspected of driving while under the influence of drugs, 106 were arrested for DUI and 635 drivers who didn't have a license or were driving with a suspended license.

During those same two weeks, there were 13 people who died in car accidents across the state and eight of them were not wearing seat belts.

"Using seat belts continues to be the single most effective thing you can do to prevent serious injury or death in a crash," said Colonel Scott Hernandez, Chief of the Colorado State Patrol.

"It takes just two seconds to protect yourself and your loved ones by requiring that everyone in your vehicle buckle up. Most importantly, be responsible and make sure all children are properly restrained in the appropriate child safety seat."

Not wearing a seat belt in Colorado will cost a driver $65 in fines, and $82 for children who are unrestrained.
