BUENA VISTA, Colo. (AP) - A coroner has ruled that a 32-year-old Leadville man who was involved in a boating accident at Clear Creek Reservoir accidentally drowned.

Chaffee County Coroner Randy Amettis tells The Pueblo Chieftain that David Lucero died Thursday.

Witnesses say the man was on a small aluminum boat with two girls, ages 6 and 8, who were wearing life preservers. They say Lucero, who was not wearing a life vest, was doing small figure eights at a slow speed about 400 feet from shore when the boat began to take on water.

The girls were able to get to shore, but Lucero had trouble getting out of the water. Several people administered CPR before emergency responders arrived, but the man died at the scene.

The sheriff's office initially reported Lucero was 41 years old.
