Councilman arrested for allegedly assaulting elderly couple

Canon City Police have arrested a councilman and another man for allegedly assaulting an elderly couple Thursday night.

54-year old Councilman and local business owner, Michael "Colby" Katchmar and 59-year old Canon City artist Thomas Lockhart were arrested for investigation of First Degree Assault and Crimes Against at Risk Adults.

According to arrest affidavit it all started at a wine tasting event at a restaurant in downtown Canon City called "Michaels on Main". The woman told police she asked Katchmar a question about the City's plan for mosquito control and that Katchmar then started harassing the couple. When the couple went to leave, the argument turned physical. The owner of the restaurant stated to police that he believe the couple would have "been killed" by the two men had he not stepped in and broke it up.

The couple was transported to St. Thomas More Hospital. The affidavit said the woman suffered "serious bodily injuries," including a hip fracture and a welt under her eye. Katchmar and Lockhart are scheduled to appear in court Wednesday

Both men posted $30,000 bonds Friday morning.

Katchmar owns Pizza Madness and the Royal Gorge Brewing Co., both on Main Street in Canon City.
