The vote is in -- you will be able to carry open carry weapons in El Paso County parks.
The Board of County Commissioners voted "yes" during their meeting on Tuesday. "Safety and "the right to self defense" were some of the issues brought up.
"We still have bears in Bear Creek Park" said speaker Anna Sparks. "Any time I go into a dangerous
animal-laden area I do conceal carry."
Many outspoken members of the public came up to speak during the heated debate. One board member said it's important to allow citizens to practice their constitutional rights.
Commissioners are also working to show a united front in the controversial "City for Champions" project in Colorado Springs.
The Board officially supported a resolution, backing a proposal to hire a third party review of the financial projection and legal requirements of the project that will create four different venues to promote sport, health, and recreation.
While some board members wanted to amend the agreement, in the end, they felt they are following the lead of the city.
The Board says they are in the process of engaging a third party auditor to go through financial assessments and review business strategies for the different venues.
The project is expected to cost hundreds of millions of dollars over the next couple of decades to complete.
