Couple accused in child's death back in Colorado

The couple accused in the death of a little girl in Monument, whose body was stuffed in a basement crawl space, has returned to Colorado Springs.

Authorities arrested Hanif Sims and Monique Lynch earlier this month in Henderson, Nevada, near Las Vegas.

Genesis Sims was nine years old when she was last seen.  She lived in Monument with her father, Hanif Sims; his girlfriend, Monique Lynch; and another young boy.  Neighbors say they moved out of the home early in 2009.  Workers discovered the body in May of this year when they were doing home improvements.

The couple arrived back in Colorado Springs on Saturday and are now booked in the El Paso County Criminal Justice Center.

During Monday's video advisement, Sims answered "yes" to the judge's questions about understanding the charges and possible punishments.  He is being held on charges of Child Abuse Resulting in Death and 2nd Degree Assault with a total bond of $750,000.

Lynch waved her rights to a video advisement.  She is being held on a charge of Child Abuse Resulting in Death with a bond of $500,000.

The El Paso County Coroner is waiting on lab results to determine a cause and manner of death for Genesis Sims.
