GREELEY, Colo. (AP) - A Longmont man accused of killing a Harlem Globetrotter's trainer is due to be advised of charges against him next week in Weld County.
The Greeley Tribune reports 23-year-old Draton Mares is due in court Thursday on charges of first-degree murder and aggravated motor vehicle theft in the death of 42-year-old Thomas Bashline. Bashline's girlfriend found his body in his bedroom Nov. 4 in rural Frederick.
According to an arrest affidavit, Mares allegedly told investigators he and Bashline had been in an occasional sexual relationship since 2010 and that he became angry after Bashline became verbally abusive toward him.
Mares is in custody in Boulder County over the Weld County case but also for alleged failure to comply with probation and bond conditions from unrelated cases.
