Shortly before 1:50 A.M. Saturday morning, a pickup truck was traveling northbound on Interstate 25 approximately 17 miles north of Trinidad when it drifted off the left side of the roadway. Colorado State Patrol states a vehicle left the road it spun out of control and rolled multiple times into the center median.
The driver was identified as 21-year-old Claudia Carrillo of Thornton Colorado, who was wearing a seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries. There were two other passengers in the vehicle, the first being 48-year-old Maria Hermosillo of El Paso Texas. Mrs. Hermosillo was also wearing her seatbelt and sustained only minor injuries.
The second passenger was identified as 78-year-old Alberto Hermosillo of El Paso Texas. Mr. Hermosillo was not wearing his seatbelt and was thrown from the vehicle during the crash. Mr. Hermosillo suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene by Las Animas County Coroner Dominic Verquer.
The Colorado State Patrol says that alcohol and speed are not suspected as contributing factors in the crash. However, inattentive to driving is being investigated as a contributing factor.
