PUEBLO, Colo. (GoThunderWolves.com - April 29, 2013) - For the first time, Colorado State University-Pueblo's annual "Pack the Park" baseball game, CSU-Pueblo's yearly baseball attendance promotion, will be a free event as the community of Pueblo is being asked to crowd Runyon Field Friday night and help CSU-Pueblo break the Division II single game attendance record.
To sweeten the deal even further, the event will feature over $3,000 in prizes, a competition among Pueblo area schools for the inaugural "Pack Baseball Spirit Cup," and a free youth baseball clinic.
The event begins with the annual youth baseball clinic, conducted by CSU-Pueblo coaches and student-athletes. Youth will receive instruction as well as a commemorative "Pack the Park" T-shirt, a free hot dog, a raffle ticket for prizes and tickets to the game. The clinic is free and registrations are being taken now (click here to register) or late registrations will be taken on the day of the event, starting at Runyon Field at 4:30 p.m. The clinic will take place from 5 to 6 p.m., and all participants in the clinic will be presented in a "Parade of Athletes" on the field prior to the start of the game at 7:05 p.m. All youth should bring a glove to participate. Entire youth teams can register together and are encouraged to wear their team uniforms to the event. Again, admission for both youth and adults alike is free to the game.
Additionally, the CSU-Pueblo baseball program is sponsoring the inaugural "Art & Lorraine Gonzales Pack Baseball Spirit Cup" as each high school, its current students, alums and future students are each mobilizing to bring as many representatives from its school out to "Pack the Park." The school that reports the most supporters to the game will help deliver its school the "Spirit Cup," which will be displayed inside the winning school until next year's "Pack the Park" event. The Spirit Cup Competition is open to all Pueblo area high schools, including Centennial, South, East, Central, West, County and Dolores Huerta.
Finally, as icing on the cake, an amazing $3,200 in prizes will be given out throughout the night. Prizes include a Sony iPod/iPhone speaker dock, an iPod touch, an iPad mini, an AR Wireless Bluetooth Portable Speaker, BOSE Headphones, a Nikon Digital Camera, a Vizio 3D DVD Blu-Ray Player, a 42-inch Vizio HD Smart TV 1080P, a 55-inch Vizio HD TV 1080P, an iPad and an LG 300 WATT Surround Sound System. Each person into the game will receive one raffle ticket for the prizes and you must be present to win the prizes.
Colorado State University-Pueblo's "Pack the Park" event strives to bring the community together through baseball as well as break the All-Time Division II Attendance Record for a single game (4,122) set by archrival Colorado Mesa in 2012. Again, for the first time, attendance is free for all to this great event.
