CSU-Pueblo is giving hundreds of elementary school students the gift of reading this Christmas.
At Columbian Elementary students from all grade levels got to pick out one free book. CSU-Pueblo's Teacher Education Association recently held a book drive. They collected more than 1,000 books for several title one elementary schools in Pueblo.
"We're a low-social economic, free and reduced lunch school," said Lorraine Fernandez-Sutton, Colorado Reading First Coach at Columbian Elementary School. "A lot of our kids don't have opportunities that other kids have, so for them to get a free book to take home is great," she added.
CSU-Pueblo also plans to giveaway books this week to students at Baca and Beulah Heights elementary schools.
