The University of Colorado has hired a contractor to audit its employees' benefits plans and check that ineligible dependents aren't claiming perks like health and dental insurance.

CU system chief human resources officer Jill Pollock says the audit should take about five months and could save the university $2 million to $4 million every year.

Pollock says the review by California-based Secova will cost CU less than $150,000. CU President Bruce Benson approved the audit as a budget-balancing measure.
