The 21-year-old woman diagnosed with the disease is a junior at the University of Colorado who lives off campus. She is hospitalized but officials expect her to be released this week.

She was diagnosed Friday. Authorities say no other current cases have been diagnosed in Colorado.

The bacteria causes an infection of the tissue surround the brain and spinal cord.
