COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. (AP) - The University of Colorado is restoring an athletics oversight committee that was abolished in 2006.

CU regents voted Friday in Colorado Springs to reinstate the board to monitor compliance with NCAA rules. The board also reviews academic performance of athletes and new construction plans for athletic buildings. The new committee will last until 2012 unless regents extend it.
The regent who sponsored the measure to restore the board said that it won't micromanage school athletic departments. Regent Jim Geddes told the Daily Camera newspaper that the new board will help athletic officials communicate with the regents. The board will oversee athletic departments at campuses in Boulder and Colorado Springs.
