Harrison School District 2 will shut the doors to 54-year-old Chamberlin Academy this fall in an attempt to save money.

Due to declining enrollment, the district had to make changes. One of which was to move to a year-round academic year; however, that change did not boost enrollment numbers as the school hoped.

Spokesperson for D-2 Jennifer Sprague says, "It's a gem in the community and no one likes to close a school, but we had to be fiscally responsible. So, we had to close."

D-2 needed to cut $4.5 million dollars this year alone. Chamberlin Academy happened to be one of the casualties of those budget cuts.

135 students attend the school and all will be reassigned to Stratton Meadows Elementary. The district added that only 83 students were from the Harrison School District.
