The Pueblo District 60 Board of Education sent a terse letter to Delores Huerta Preparatory School's Board President Tuesday. The letter was also sent local media.
Stephanie Garcia, the District 60 Board President brought up six points of concern. It notes a governing board that appears to lack a quorum and according to the letter cannot run the school. The letter says "this is a serious legal matter for you to address immediately."
The letter also notes fiscal instability at Delores Huerta, an "alarming" increase in the drop out rate, and the lack of a Chief Executive Officer at the school.
Delores Huerta, and Cesar Chavez Academy across the street, were started by Lawrence Hernandez. Hernandez was fired by the board last year, along with his wife.
The longtime board president at the two schools, Dennis Fuerstein, resigned last month.
