Democrats are hoping to smooth tensions after the bitter Colorado Senate primary.

Party chairman Tim Kaine will be in Denver on Thursday for what the party is calling a unity rally. Democratic Sen. Michael Bennet and his primary challenger, Andrew Romanoff, have both agreed to attend. Bennet overcame Romanoff's efforts to unseat him Tuesday.

The campaign turned nasty in the closing weeks, with supporters of the separate campaigns getting into shouting matches at some campaign events.

The race even divided two Democratic presidents: Barack Obama backed Bennet, while Bill Clinton endorsed Romanoff.
