Denver man convicted of sexual assault after use of new hearsay state law

DENVER (AP) - A Denver man has been convicted of sexually assaulting a developmentally disabled woman, after prosecutors made use of a new state law that allows hearsay evidence to be heard in cases involving developmentally disabled victims.
Ennio Daniel was convicted this week of two counts of sexual assault on an at-risk adult and a second-degree kidnapping count.
The charges alleged Daniel lured a developmentally disabled acquaintance into his car last year and sexually assaulted her.
Denver prosecutors said Friday that he was convicted in a trial in which the victim's recorded statement to a forensic interviewer was admitted as evidence. A bill passed this year allowed such evidence to be introduced.
Daniel is awaiting sentencing.
