DENVER (AP) - Another Denver police officer has been fired after he was accused of mishandling an investigation involving a pregnant woman hit by a hit-and-run driver.
The Denver Post reported Wednesday that Detective Jay Estrada was fired for allegedly failing to actively investigate the traffic accident. Laura Gorham was hit in December while crossing a Denver street. Her baby was delivered, but didn't survive.
Denver Manager of Safety Charles Garcia oversees the fire and law enforcement agencies. He has been criticized for decisions to fire officers since starting the job in March.
Detective Kenneth Briggle was dismissed last week. A judge found Briggle in contempt of court last summer and ordered him to serve 37 days in work release
Interim Mayor Guillermo "Bill" Vidal has made police discipline a priority.
