More than two dozen agencies will run a disaster exercise Saturday in El Paso County. The exercise, referred to as NOAA's Ark, is sponsored by the South Central Homeland Security Region and Pikes Peak Metropolitan Medical Response System.
The event is designed to simulate a weather emergency, in this case a tornado, in eastern El Paso County. The drill centers on Hanover School, located at 17050 S. Peyton Highway. The exercise will include people in several locations in El Paso County. There are over 315 volunteers, with 180 playing the role of victims with injuries ranging from very severe to mild. The role-players with simulated injuries will move throughout the city and county in buses, ambulances, and Sheriff's Office transport vans and will almost certainly be noticed by residents.
The goal is to train emergency responders under simulated but realistic conditions.
