BOULDER, Colo. (AP) - Nine abused Alaskan malamute dogs taken from a Montana breeder are getting treatment at the Humane Society of Boulder Valley before they are put up for adoption.

The dogs were seized more than a year ago from breeder Mike Chilinski in Jefferson City, Mont.

Court documents show 161 dogs were found penned in small cages and starving. Authorities discovered a garbage can with dead puppies in it.

According to the Boulder Daily Camera (http://tinyurl.com/cuzt3yu ), a Montana court held the dogs as evidence until December.

Chilinski was convicted of more than 90 counts of animal cruelty and was sentenced to 30 years in custody, with 25 years suspended. He also is banned from owning any animals for the next 30 years.
