Doug Bruce asks for help passing tax-cutting measures

An anti-tax advocate who has tried to distance himself from a trio of tax-and-debt cutting measures is urging supporters to volunteer to get the proposals passed next month.

The Denver Post reported Thursday that Douglas Bruce made the pitch in an e-mail last month to backers of Amendments 60 and 61 and Proposition 101.

He says that they're in the "home stretch" and asked for eight hours of their time to get the measures passed.

He refused to testify in a lawsuit about the tax-cutting ballot measures.

He told the Post that he never said he opposed the measures, just that he wasn't one of the proponents.

Opponents warn the three measures could cripple state government.
