Drifting comes to Southern Colorado

Drift weekend started Friday at Pikes Peak International Raceway and continues through Saturday. It's the largest event of its kind in Colorado's history, and even if you're not familiar with drifting, those involved say everyone can enjoy.

"Every time it rains or snows," says driver Dan Brockett. "And you get in a car, and the car steps out a little bit, and you're having a little bit of fun, that's everything we're doing right now."

"It captures the last lap of every race," says announcer Joe DeAnda. "It captures what everybody wants to do when they get in a a rental car. Tires squealing, clutch kicking, door to door, wheel to wheel. If you come out here and you don't have a smile on your face, I'm pretty sure we can get your money back somehow."

There are three classifications competing. The professional finals start at 3 p.m. Saturday.
