Detectives with the Colorado Springs Police Department have identified the two people who were seriously injured during an alleged street racing accident Friday night.

Officers say Jeffrey Hawthorne, 34, of Colorado Springs was driving a 1997 Dodge Viper along Academy Boulevard at a high rate of speed when he lost control of the car and crashed into a large boulder at the intersection with Constitution Avenue.

Hawthorne's passenger, 28-year-old Fallon Nava of Pueblo West, was also injured. He is currently listed in critical condition and she is listed as being in fair condition at Memorial Hospital.

The police believe Hawthorne was racing with a Subaru STi when the accident happened. The driver of the other car recently came forward and gave a statement to police.

The accident remains under investigation by the department's Major Accident Unit.
