Driver arrested for human smuggling

A man from Guatemala was arrested this morning near Trinidad for smuggling people into the United States.
Just before noon, Trooper Jorge Leal stopped a Honda Odyssey for speeding in a construction zone. According to the State Patrol, Trooper Leal discovered 9 people in the vehicle. Four were from Guatemala, four were from Mexico and one was from Eritrea in Africa.
The driver was identified as 28-year-old Silvio Rodriguez-Rodas of Guatemala.
All were taken to a facility in Florence by the State Patrol Immigration Enforcement Unit.
The driver faces possible human smuggling charges.
